Kate Spall
2012 Community Award Winner

For the past 5 years Kate has successfully battled for cancer patients who are refused new cancer drugs. Galvanised by her mother, Pamela’s fight against kidney cancer, Kate spent hours researching how she could get the NHS to change their mind. After a 9 month battle, Pamela became the first person to get this new cancer drug in Wales. After her mother’s death in 2006, Kate continued to fight for other patients giving up her job and takin on the government to win this treatment for everyone in Wales and England, helping to extend the lives of around 28- cancer patients. As her 14 year old son Eden said “She has taught me to always fight for those who cannot fight for themselves and to never believe your voice doesn’t count.”
