Charlotte Carbery-Evans
2012 Inspiring Young Woman Winner

Charlotte is a care leaver in Salford who has shown remarkable determination and commitment in helping out other young people in the Salford area, despite a difficult and challenging start in her life. Charlotte has recently graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in Sports Development and decided against a mundane job offer to follow her goal of working in sports development. This meant balancing volunteering with part time jobs, but Charlotte has no regrets.

Her main role is as a volunteer at her old school, All Hallows in Salford, where she assists staff in developing and delivering sports sessions to young people. Director of Sports, Micky Tomlinson admits that without Charlotte’s input, many of the extracurricular sports class simply wouldn’t be available. In addition Charlotte also works part time for the school employed as a Healthy Lifestyle coach responsible for delivering multi sports to young people across the city at various venues. This role also covers all primary schools. Charlotte also volunteers for Sport4life a not for profit organisation aimed at delivering sports sessions to disadvantaged young people and communities across the NW. Through Sport4life she was nominated as one of 800 young people across the county applying to become part of the 40 person strong volunteer team for Coca Cola at the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics which she was selected for.  On top of all this hard work Charlotte also runs a weekly Street dance group, ‘Next Step’ which is a group of all female care leavers in Salford. Charlotte is seen as a positive role model and someone the girls can talk to and someone “who they can relate to” as a care leaver herself. Two of the girls have gone on to gain dance leaders awards. Charlotte is a superb ambassador and role model for these young people and an unofficial mentor to dance troupe members struggling with school. Charlotte has a great work ethic, waitressing from the age of 14 years, she also works part time in a city centre restaurant.

Charlotte’s goal is to be the best sports teacher and motivator she can be and of that we have no doubt.
